Description

A sheet pan extravaganza of melty, customizable grilled cheese sandwiches. Perfect for entertaining, with sweet, savory, and gourmet flavor combinations.


Ingredients

  • Bread slices: 24 slices (12 sandwiches, 2 per person)
  • Butter: ~½ cup melted (room temperature) for spreading on both sides
  • Cheese~ Shredded for best melt (about 1/4 cup of cheese per sandwich)
    • White Cheddar ~ 3/4 cup
    • Sharp Cheddar ~ 3/4 cup
    • Gruyère – ~¾ cup
    • Fontina – ~¾ cup
  • Spreads / jams: 2–3 tsp per sandwich 
    • Caramelized onion jam – ~¼ cup
      (for The Cozy Onion)
    • Apricot preserves – ~¼ cup
      (for The Apricot Classic)
    • Sour cherry jam – ~¼ cup
      (for The Cherry Basil)
    • Dijon mustard – ~2 tablespoons
      (for The Bistro Apple)
  • Herbs / extras: small handfuls per type (chives, basil, thyme, thin apple slices, arugula, etc.)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a sheet pan with parchment.
  2. Using a pastry brush, brush melted butter the outside of each bread slice evenly.
  3. Assemble sandwiches with your chosen cheese, spreads, and extras.
  4. Place sandwiches on the sheet pan in a single layer, leaving space between each.
  5. Bake 8–12 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bread is golden. Flip halfway through if desired.
  6. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
  7. Transfer sandwiches to a serving tray. Serve warm, and enjoy a variety of combinations!

Notes

Serve alongside tomato soup for dipping, or offer small cups so guests can mix and match.
