Matriarch Muses

Family Tree Foodie is a love story to my mother, my grandmothers, my aunts and cherished family friends from my childhood. These beautiful and special women have either directly or indirectly shaped who I am today.

Finding their favorite recipes in their handwriting on aging, fragile paper feels like finding precious artifacts. I adore learning more about them, their cooking styles, influences and preferences – from everyday family meals, to weekly bread baking, to special treats and holiday traditions. Hearing these stories and recreating their recipes feels like I am cooking beside them in their kitchens.

Sharing these recipes with loved ones who remember them, as well as with younger generations, as a way to get to know them better, is such a privilege. It feels like a time machine, taking us from a still black and white photo to the technicolor vibrance that encapsulated these women during their lives.

At the end of each recipe inspired by a family member, I will add a blurb about the matriarch who left or inspired the recipe as well as easy links to their other recipes.

And, so that my own children don’t need to dig so far for the recipes and traditions that we are still creating, I look forward to sharing my own recipes from our travel, holidays, and special moments.

I look forward to sharing these recipes and also learning more about the food traditions and recipes that shape your family trees.
